5 little things to make dressing an apple shape more fun

Of all my mates, it's those with a rounder “apple” shape that have figured out that fun is the keyword when it comes to style. If your tummy is the body part you most want to hide and disguise, then my friends, it's time to learn about fashion smoke and mirrors.

  1. Get yourself an awesome bra

A great bra gives you the lift and support you need to make the most of your shape. When your boobs are up where higher, your waist is at it's longest. If you haven't had a proper fit in the past 3 years, then find a small specialist bra shop (I love AbrasKadabras in Katoomba, and Debras in Penrith - they are both fantastic for getting the fit perfect)

  1. Be bold with jewellery and accessories

Generally the rule of thumb is that jewellery looks great when it reflects the shape of the wearer, for Apple and Hourglass girls this means make it big and eye-catching. Chunky bangles, big earrings, statement necklaces, a fabulous waist cinching wide belt – so go for it.

  1. Create a diversion with jackets and coats

the aim here is to break up your top half with an open jacket, preferably this might even be a great long line knit for winter. Steer away from bulky lapels, and keep it clean cut. Make sure the top underneath is another colour to the jacket, this contrast will create the illusion of a narrower top half.

  1. Show off your pins

Keep your legs in tip top shape in summer, a little fake tan is the equivalent of foundation and gives your legs a toned look. For winter, go for matte tights in the same colour as your shoes to elongate your legs. To create a long line, straight pants with a little elastine are winners.

5. Always be on the hunt for the perfect dress

This is pretty much a rule for all women. There will be plenty of occasions require a dressing up, so even if there is not an event on the horizon, when you find that perfect dress, the one that has a crossover, or empire line drop from the bust, one that creates shape – grab it!
